Meet Our Faculty
Liz Kolar, CPA, CGMA, has been teaching CPA Review for more than 25 years in the United States, has personally taught more than 2,500 live sessions, and has helped thousands of candidates pass the CPA Exam. She founded Pinnacle CPA Review and co-founded Surgent Kolar CPA Review.
She is a recipient of the ASWA Business Woman of the Year Northeast Region, Distinguished Faculty Member of the Year, and PICPA Outstanding Educator of the Year. Liz began her career in Public Accounting with a Big Four accounting firm auditing financial service clients after graduating from Pace University with an MBA in Public Accounting. Liz’s teaching career spans almost 30 years. She has taught at the undergraduate and graduate levels at Pace University and Seton Hall University, and is currently a professor at Delaware Valley University.
John (Jack) M. Surgent
Jack Surgent, CPA, is Founder of Surgent CPE. His company is the largest provider of tax and financial-planning seminars to CPAs in the United States.
Jack has personally presented over 1,800 live seminars in the past 25 years and has been named Outstanding Discussion Leader by various professional organizations. His down-to-earth, practical approach clearly emphasizes ways in which professionals can satisfy their clients’ needs and maximize their incomes. Jack also manages a 30-person CPA firm specializing in taxation and financial planning for high-net-worth individuals and closely held businesses.
Jack has worked in the tax department of a Big Four accounting firm and was an assistant professor at St. Joseph’s University in Philadelphia. He received his bachelor’s degree in accounting from Villanova University and a master’s in taxation from Villanova University School of Law.
Tony Nitti, CPA, is a nationally recognized instructor, practicing CPA, and popular tax policy writer for Forbes.com. He excels at unraveling and clearly explaining the implications of tax laws and tax policy proposals.
Licensed in both Colorado and New Jersey, Tony is a Partner in WithumSmith+Brown’s National Tax Service Group in Aspen, Colorado. His specialty is corporate and partnership taxation, with an emphasis on complex mergers and acquisitions structuring. Tony was named one of CPA Practice Advisor’s “40 Under 40” in both 2012 and 2013. In addition to his “Nitti Gritty” blog on Forbes.com, Tony has written feature articles for numerous tax publications and he has been quoted in the Wall Street Journal, Bloomberg, and CNN Money. He holds a Masters in Taxation from the University of Denver.
Jen is a CPA who has over 20 years of experience in designing and presenting high-quality training programs in a wide variety of technical and “soft skills” topics needed for professional and organizational success. In 2014, she joined Surgent CPE, as the director of audit product development. Most recently, she was the president of Emergent Solutions Group, LLC, a company she founded in 2003, dedicated to developing and delivering accounting and auditing training services. Prior to that, she was executive vice president/director of training services at AuditWatch, Inc., a highly respected training and consulting firm serving the audit profession.
Before focusing on continuing education, Jennifer was an audit manager in the Washington, D.C. offices of Deloitte. While there, she participated as both a local and national instructor for audit staff training. She initially left public accounting to be the financial/operational audit manager for the AARP, allowing her to gain experience from the private accounting point of view.
Susan has been involved in various fields of accounting for over 30 years. She began her career with Arthur Andersen & Co. after graduating from Florida State University with a master’s degree in accounting. In addition to her experience in public accounting, she has worked as a senior internal auditor for GTE and as a full-time accounting instructor at the University of South Florida, where she developed and taught the first online accounting course. Susan also has previous experience in valuation accounting and as an editor for a national CPA review publication.
Tracy Paul Hunt is a founding partner of Timby Hunt, LLC. He received his Bachelor of Arts from the University of North Carolina, Chapel Hill and his law degree from Widener University School of Law in Wilmington, Delaware.
For the past 15 years, Tracy has concentrated his legal practice in all areas of civil litigation including business-related contract issues, employment, land use and personal injury. Tracy also heads up the Wills and Estates practice for the firm, and assists his business clients in incorporation, drafting of contracts, trademark infringement and personnel matters.
Sports representation and collegiate athletic advising are Tracy’s unique concentration. As a player representative, he has represented professional athletes in baseball, football, golf and action sports. Through Benchmark Sports Advisors, Tracy also helps high school athletes and their families navigate the complicated process of evaluating the many scholarship opportunities which come their way. He advises families on the difference between the offers, assists in financial aid applications, and ensures the schools follow through on the promises made to the high school athlete.
